The Best Staycation Ideas

July 9, 2022
Tent And Outdoor Chairs

Summer is half over, but there is still time to get out there and do some road-tripping. This has always been the way I travel, but for some, this is a new concept. The best Staycation ideas are the kind that let you get away from your everyday way of doing things. Even if it’s just getting out to the backyard or local campsite.

Backyard Staycation

Why not create the best staycation right in your backyard? Spend a little sprucing up a place in the backyard that you can enjoy with the family every day. Gowning up on a lake, I remember my dad saying that he felt he was on vacation every day after work. He would walk through the front door when he got home and change into his shorts. As soon as he headed out the back door he was on vacation. We would take the boat for a trip around the lake every night.

The Best Backyard Cocktails

Cocktails are fun to create, and every time I travel, I always try new one. Have fun and create a yummy cocktail from one of your favorite vacations. Here are a couple of different cocktails from the 10-day 10 state trip I took on the Pacific Northwest.

Local Staycation

A lot of parks and campsites are opening up now, with social distancing. Why buy a tent and head to a campsite for some outdoor family fun? Be sure to check your local campsites to make sure they are open and see if you need a reservation.

Texas Has So Much To Offer

I live in Texas, so a staycation will usually happen somewhere in Texas. There are so many great locations to visit, the hill country, the coast, or the many lakes and rivers around this beautiful state. Again, be sure you check ahead to see if they are open, or if you need a reservation.

Make It A Road Trip

RVs are the hot thing right now. But you can still have an epic road trip without spending a fortune. I did 30 days 30 states road trip last year for under $2,000. You have to plan it right. Map out your locations, plan your hotels, and be sure you take all the safety precautions necessary.

Road Trip Food

Packing good snacks is a must for any great road trip. Be sure to grab a cooler that fits in your vehicle, but doesn’t take up to much room.  Pack things that crunch, it helps when you start to get sleepy. Crackers, carrots, and cucumbers are all great choices. You can even pack some individual snack packs to make it easier while you are driving. Be sure if the kids are traveling with you that they pick out their favorite snacks. Letting them pick the snacks will ensure they eat them. Always pack a lot of drinks, whether it’s water or tea, or your favorite soda, you don’t want to get dehydrated while driving. I love the fruit-infused water, and it’s easy to make for yourself and pack away in a cooler.

Road Trip Safety

Due to the Covid pandemic, traveling is a little different. You can still have a fun and safe staycation or vacation, just make sure you are taking all the safety precautions. Below is a list of some of the necessities you will need for everyone on your trip. You could create a safety pack for each person. Let the kids have fun creating their own safety fanny pack. Check with the location or destination to see if they have any other precautions you need to plan for.

Road Tripping With A Friend

My friend and travel buddy Jen is a die-hard road tripper and wrote an amazing article about road trip safety. Check it out at Swept Away With Jennifer Broome – Road Trip Preps .

Face Mask Style

There are so many facemasks available now, I have a couple of different kinds, for different reasons. If I’m going to the grocery store, I use the paper medical mask or the Whataburger mask with the charcoal insert. I like the material mask for when I am out and about where there isn’t as much chance of getting too close to anyone. I saw this great TV segment done on Good Morning America.

Get Creative And Have Fun

However your summer looks, just make sure to get creative and have fun. You don’t have to travel far to get away, and you don’t have to break the bank to have fun.
