One of the best things about South Haven is that it is a very pet-friendly town. The restaurants and shops welcome you and your furry friends, and this is a fun way to explore the town. This is a popular spot for photographers trying to catch that perfect hot summer day. South Haven is truly one of the best vacation getaways for the whole family in the state of Michigan.

Paw Paw
The town of Paw Paw is home to St. Julian Winery. Open for over 100 years, it is one of the first wineries in the Michigan wine industry and now has 6 wineries located throughout Michigan. Be sure to sit down for a wine tasting, it is a great way to taste some of Michigan’s amazing fruit wines. My amazing principal from my high school, Mr. Bill Scaletta said that Boone’s Long Lake Inn and Redd’s Root Beer Drive-In are “must go-to’s” when you visit Paw Paw.
Marcellus
Home to 36 lakes and more pigs than people, the small town of Marcellus is my hometown. I grew up on one of the best lakes located south of town called Cedar Lake. We had a boat parade every 4th of July, and the fishing was great any time of the year. Swiss Valley is an independent ski resort just outside of town, and it’s where I learned to ski. It was founded in 1968, is family-owned, and is one of the best places to ski or snowboard. Every summer Marcellus hosts the Bluegill Frolic, a local fair and fish fry. Be sure to check out Amy’s Fabulous Diner for breakfast or lunch. Then head out to The Rock at Big Fish Lake for high-end dining and cocktails.
Festivals and Events
Summer in Southern Michigan is synonymous with lively festivals and events. You can find a county fair or summer festival happening almost every week. My hometown of Marcellus hosts the Bluegill Frolic annually every August. There are so many outdoor activities like market days, winery tours, and amazing beaches to enjoy as well.
